Founded in 1833, under the aegis of liberalismo, it was destined to recolect the goods conficated from the abandoned monasteries in Porto and the extincted from other places (S. Martinho de Tibães and Santa Cruz Monasteries, from Coimbra). The looting ocorred during the civil war that put absolutists against liberalists.
It is set in the Carrancas Palace, built in the late years of the 18th century it suffered several adaptations to its new task. It has painting and sculpting collections from the 19th century and the first half of the 20th.
Porto’s Municipal Museum deposit is an interesting collection of Decorative Arts (16th and 19th century ceramics, national and oriental porcelaine, jewellery pieces, glass and furniture).
The entrance to the museum is priced between 2€ and 5€. On Sundays and holidays the entrance is free until 2 p.m. Soares dos Reis closes on the first of January, on Easter Sunday, May 1st and on December 25.

Está instalado no Palácio
dos Carrancas, construção de finais do séc XVIII que sofreu várias adaptações
para esta nova função. Tem colecções de pintura e escultura do século XIX e da
primeira metade do XX.
O depósito do Museu
Municipal do Porto é uma interessante colecção de Artes Decorativas (cerâmica,
faiança nacional, porcelana oriental, peças de ourivesaria, joalharia, vidros e
mobiliário dos séculos XVI a XIX).
A entrada no museu custa
entre € 2 e € 5. Aos domingos e feriados, a entrada é livre até às 14h. O MNSR
encerra nos dias 1 de Janeiro, domingo de Páscoa, 1 de Maio e 25 de Dezembro.
