This is definitely one of the best ways to know Porto. Trams are known to be one of the city’s landmarks and while you travel on them, you’ll see all the most remarkable places of the city.

The tram history begins in 1872, when the first route was opened. Since then the fleet of vehicles has been restored and still preserves that vintage look from the 20s and 30s.

Nowadays the tram does three different routes through all the different historical areas in Porto.

Line 1: The Douro Riverside track – travelling from the historical centre to Passeio Alegre Garden. On this route, you will spot several interesting landmarks, such as the Museu do Elétrico (Tram Museum), the Museu de Transportes e Comunicações (Transport and Communications Museum), the Museu do Vinho do Porto (Port Wine Museum) or the famous Ponte da Arrábida (Arrabida Bridge).

This route takes 23 minutes and departs from near S. Francisco de Assis church and monument.

This little video introduces places in Porto's city centre which you should include in your visit. Take the Tower of Clérigos, it’s celebrating its 250 years of existence: for only 2€ you can enjoy the view of the whole city from the top of the tower. You will, indeed, need to endure a few flights of steps but, it is worth it. You can take our word for it.
